If your jeweller sells you a star sapphire ring with a synthetic star sapphire, you might not get a good deal as no one really knows what base material is used to make synthetic star sapphires. Even if you did know the chemical composition of the synthetic star sapphire, it would take a scientist to study and analyze the physical characteristics (including hardness) of the gemstone.
This star sapphire ring has a dark colored diffused star sapphire, this adds to the beauty of the gemstone as the white star that moves across the surface of the gemstone strikes a stunning contrast with the dark colored gemstone. It is also important to know that the star on the gemstone is not a fixed painted star! Move your star sapphire ring under a light source and you will be amazed with the clear star that moves with the light source.
Since the diffused star sapphire casts a sharp white star against the dark gemstone, it is suitable for both white and yellow gold. You can order your star sapphire ring in white or yellow gold and choose from 14k or 18k gold. There are natural star sapphires but, it is extremely unlikely and almost impossible to find a natural star sapphire that boasts of such a clear and sharp star.

Other gemstones like black onyx, green jade, carnelian, blue lapis and bloodstone can also be used but these gems are not as durable as sapphires. In such cases, we would recommend that the profile of the gemstone be reduced so that not much of the gemstone protrudes out of the ring. This will reduce the chances of the gemstone being struck by physical impact. The star sapphire ring shown in these images consists of a smooth gemstone (cabachon cut), however gems like topaz, citrine, amethyst, tourmaline, aquamarine etc would do better with a faceted cut. Faceted gems would be almost flush with the ring and not protrude outside, this increases the durability of the ring.
